“Dreams of Flowers: Mini Pads of Color” from Barron’s is a wonderful way to have a coloring pad accessible without it taking up too much room (although we won’t mention the volume of coloring utensils that have to be hauled along, lol). Each page is just under 6”x6” and contains a different design, in a lay-flat format, that can either be colored while still attached or removed from the tablet. The drawback is the intensely dark drawings, which require markers in lighter color to contrast with the black background, but those provide a stark and beautiful picture, as long as one is coloring in the lines! I love that each picture offers the option of coloring in broad strokes or one can choose to color each tiny section in a different color. Although a few of the designs have large enough spaces to use colored pencils so that they are not overwhelmed by the design, most of the remaining ones are more suited to pens or markers that will provide a better ‘pop’ against the dark outlines or backgrounds. This is a fun collection of flowers, both stylized and whimsical, and I liked all of the pictures except for the abstract overlapping concentric circles and the repeating geometric figures.
