This is another very erotic tale in the angst-filled series that features deliciously dominant males and the women who enthrall them. Although I have enjoyed watching Ian reconcile his intense need to control the malleable but very talented woman who has become so important to him, I was disturbed by his failure to progress in the relationship as is portrayed in the beginning of this book. I realize that it helps contribute to the story but I think Francesca deserved to be treated better and that she should have developed a stronger sense of self by now. The suspense element was mildly predictable for me but it did enhance the story and I look forward to learning more about Ian’s unusual extended family although I hope that the women are going to be equals rather than doormats in subsequent stories. I think that the villain triggered some of my ick buttons and although he provides a nice foil, I think that deliberate obtuseness was required for him to operate which was a somewhat jarring note for me as it conflicts with the brilliance displayed by many of these characters in other aspects of their lives. I do enjoy the depth of emotion and the sensual and kinky scenes which are part of this series but I like my heroines to have backbone and I was glad that Francesca found hers again and I look forward to reading more about these compelling characters.
“Because We Belong” by Beth Kery is the third book in the sensual ‘Because You are Mine’ series and continues the saga of Francesca Arno and Ian Noble‘s complex relationship. Ian’s attempts to come to terms with the influence of Trevor Gaines’ on the man he has become has led him to reject everyone from his life for the past six months and causes Francesca to have severe doubts about her importance in his life. Their incandescent sexual relationship has intensified as Francesca has come to crave the BDSM interactions that are such a big part of their intimacy but there may be more danger than just Ian’s rejection for her to cope with. Hopefully, Ian’s family will play a role in helping him find his equilibrium but not everyone may have the same goal.
