“Archangel’s Storm” by Nailini Singh is part of her ‘Guild Hunters’ series and is a fantastic paranormal read. It has a beautiful blend of the ‘otherness’ of angels, archangels and vampires mixed with realistic descriptions of the delicate dance of diplomacy between powerful factions and is rounded off with an intriguing murder mystery. I enjoy this author’s ability to evoke vivid pictures with nuances that add just the right touch and give insight into characters with very few words. The horrific experiences that hone the characters are a bit graphic and nightmarish but the depth of emotion displayed in the multiple explorations of love is touching and heartwarming. The strength displayed by two characters who should be broken by all that they have been exposed to is a wonderful inspiration and the intriguing cameos by other characters who were highlighted in previous books in the series make this a very entertaining tale.
Jason is one of the Seven who have sworn loyalty to the archangel Raphael and acts as his very effective spymaster. Jason is traditionally very self-contained and able to disappear into the shadows effortlessly but will need all of the powers at his command when he is tasked to solve a horrific murder in the archangel Neha’s territory. A surprising tie to Mahiya, a princess in Neha’s court, will complicate the formerly imperturbable angel as he tries to help her with her own goals. The vampire Dmitri and his Guild hunter Honor also have their own obstacles to overcome as their relationship continues to blossom. Changes in the powers wielded by the various denizens of the world imply a greater upheaval is yet to come and the question of most concern to Jason is who will survive the conflict and what kind of world will it be after the victor is decided?
Enter New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh’s darkly beautiful world of archangels and immortal power, as a pact is sealed between two souls bound by blood, stirred by desire, and driven by vengeance…
With wings of midnight and an affinity for shadows, Jason courts darkness. But now, with the Archangel Neha’s consort lying murdered in the jewel-studded palace that was his prison and her rage threatening cataclysmic devastation, Jason steps into the light, knowing he must unearth the murderer before it is too late.
Earning Neha’s trust comes at a price—Jason must tie himself to her bloodline through the Princess Mahiya, a woman with secrets so dangerous, she trusts no one. Least of all an enemy spymaster.
With only their relentless hunt for a violent, intelligent killer to unite them, Jason and Mahiya embark on a quest that leads to a centuries-old nightmare… and to the dark storm of an unexpected passion that threatens to drench them both in blood.
