A SEAL at Heart

West Coast SEAL, #1

“A SEAL at Heart” is an exciting and poignant read that gives insight into the dangerous and stressful life of a SEAL even as it shows the magnitude of the sacrifices and commitment of these amazing heroes. The realistic glimpses of the rigorous training, the extremely perilous missions undertaken with the barest amount of information, and the sobering reminders of the impact of this lifestyle upon personal relationships as is seen through things like a flower shop that has specials for apology or ‘don’t divorce me’ bouquets are contrasted with the joy that these warriors derive from honing their bodies and skills to their maximum effectiveness, joining creatures like dolphins in their natural environment and honoring the brotherhood that develops from being able to completely depend on each other in life and death. The sensual and sizzling encounters between the main characters provide a delightful counterpoint to the journey that Laurie is helping Jack follow in order to solve the mystery behind his failed mission. An emotional description of a farewell ceremony and celebration for a fallen comrade provides even more realism in this wonderful read.

“A SEAL at Heart” by Anne Elizabeth is the poignant and intriguing tale of Navy SEAL John Matthew Roaker (known as Jack) who returns from a horrific assignment with amnesia and the realization that his swim buddy and partner was killed during an op that he can’t remember. Distrustful of the therapists who are supposed to help him heal, Jack is frustrated by the stonewalling he is receiving and hurt and confused by the lack of communication from his surviving teammates. A chance encounter with a physical therapist named Laurie Smith starts them on a sometimes bumpy relationship but he finds that she may be essential to his recovery. The problem is that Laurie herself is a SEAL pup (offspring of a SEAL) and has no plans to have a relationship with a SEAL, especially since she knows firsthand that they are single-mindedly devoted to their chosen profession.
