“A Ghostly Reunion” by Tonya Kappes is a fun addition to this series, even more because of the guest-starring role by ebullient author Jade Lee, who fortunately is nothing like the character bearing her name. The uncanny ability to commune with the dead who haven’t quite gone to their final destination is disconcerting and eerie, but the stories in this series charm with their blend of small town maneuverings and family conflicts seen through the prism of a society where everyone knows your business and your history. The mordant humor that accompanies the necessary but gloomy vocation of funeral home operation is definitely present as Emma Lee deals with insecurities left from being an oddity at high school, the struggle with her sister, financial worries, and the sniping by her former tormentor, and I enjoyed the way she dealt with several of her issues. Although the mystery for this book is solved…there is quite a twist at the end that leaves one hanging…and I was surprised to realize that the subsequent pages are excerpts from the other four books in the series. That definitely makes me anxious to read the next book and find out how Emma Lee’s newest client joined the ranks!
This cozy mystery is part of the ‘Ghostly Southern Mystery’ series and continues the saga of funeral home proprietor Emma Lee Raines. Not only is Jade Lee Peel, Emma’s high school nemesis, back in town, but she’s threatening to take over the spotlight…and take back her ex, Emma Lee’s hot and hunky Sherriff, Jack Henry Ross. A murder puts everything into perspective, and reveals secrets that will change relationships, not necessarily for the better.
Emma Lee Raines sees dead people
Proprietor of the Eternal Slumber Funeral Home, Emma Lee can see, hear, and talk to ghosts of murdered folks. And when her high school nemesis is found dead, Jade Lee Peel is the same old mean girl—trying to come between Emma Lee and her hot boyfriend, Sheriff Jack Henry Ross, all over again.
There’s only one way for Emma Lee to be free of the trash-talking ghost—solve the murder so the former prom queen can cross over. But the last thing Jade Lee wants is to leave the town where she had her glory days. And the more Emma Lee investigates on her own, the more complicated Miss Popularity turns out to be. Now Emma Lee will have to work extra closely with her hunky lawman to get to the twisty truth.
