A Dangerous Liaison with Detective Lewis

The Gentlemen of Scotland Yard

A mesmerizing and entertaining portrait of events and inventions of the early Industrial Age in Great Britain. This talented author combines a murder mystery with an intriguing

look at a significant historical era. The fascinating inventions such as an armored landship (early tank?) and a submarine add a wonderful background to an intricate tale of love’s trials and tribulations. The unexpected developments keep adding extra dimensions to an already complex and somewhat flawed character and the nonstop action makes this a delightfully entertaining read. My only complaint is that the hero seems virtually indestructible (or has an incredibly high pain tolerance) as he seems to be injured in practically every encounter with the villains yet continues on steadfastly and I do advise a relatively strong stomach (or a conveniently obtuse imagination) since there are a few pretty grisly descriptions but this is an exhilarating and romantic read that was thoroughly enjoyable.

“A Dangerous Liaison with Detective Lewis” by Jillian Stone is part of her intriguing ‘The Gentlemen of Scotland Yard’ series. A plot that seems directed at all of the great proponents of industrialization sends detective Raphael (Rafe) Lewis back to the scene of his biggest disgrace. Francis (Fanny) Greyville-Nugent has suffered a recent bereavement but never expects to have the man who so cruelly jilted her force his way into her life by claiming that her inventor father was murdered and her life may also be endangered. Danger continues to mount as the pair is harried across Scotland while Rafe does his best to protect the woman he is determined to make amends to. Rafe has secrets of his own which are gradually revealed even as he himself attempts to unravel the mastermind behind the anti-industrial movement in addition to striving to win forgiveness from his lost love.

Book Blurb for A Dangerous Liaison with Detective Lewis

The fates had been perversely mischievous of late—case in point, Raphael Lewis. . . .

When Fanny Greyville-Nugent’s father suffers a gruesome death in the clutches of his own machine, mourning his loss is not the beautiful heiress’s only heartbreak. Scotland Yard is convinced he was targeted in a plot to halt the rise of industry, and Fanny’s former fiancé, dashing and dubious detective Raphael “Rafe” Lewis, has been assigned to the case.

For the estranged ex-lovers, bringing the notorious assassins to justice proves as tumultuous as quelling pent-up desires. Fighting peril and passion at every turn of a dangerous journey from Edinburgh to London, they are pursued by an anarchist group hell-bent on destroying her father’s mysterious entry into the London Industrial Exposition.

When an astonishing discovery about the couple’s failed engagement surfaces, the sleuthing duo realize they can trust no one. Rafe confesses new details about his infidelity and Fanny risks all to avenge her father’s murder. But will Rafe and Fanny triumph over the pain of their past?
