Saving Toby is a long story, literally. But once I started reading it I couldn't put it down and I read 526 pages in less than three days.
Toby and Claudia’s relationship is full of ups and downs, happy and sad moments, because they are so different. But since opposites attract it was inevitable for them to fall in love. In order to have their HEA Toby and Claudia’s relationship has to go through many trials. Saving Toby is a beautiful story about first love, broken hearts, second chances and friendship. The author did a magnificent job in keeping together a plot of the story; it has right amount of drama, angst, sadness, happiness, love, and sex. There are no loose ends, or illogical places; one event follows the other and they are all bind together in one magnificent and emotional story.
There are several things that I specially love about Saving Toby. First, the female character is great and well written. Claudia is a good girl, that leads sheltered life, but despite that she is not naïve. She knows what she wants. Also she doesn't want to be pushed around by anyone and she is not afraid to follow her dreams. Second, I like how author develops Toby and Claudia’s relationship. Instead of making them dependent of one another, she let them find their own path. She let them grow and let them lead their own lives, only to bring them back together in the end.
The story is told from both Claudia and Toby’s POV, and the author did great job in distinguishing these two voices. There is no cliffhanger, although the author is preparing sequel (which I cannot wait).
Saving Toby is Suzanne McKenna Link debut novel, and it is a great one. I highly recommend it to all of you who enjoy contemporary romance novels. Read it, you will not regret it.
Toby and Claudia are completely different, she is goal oriented, and he does not know what to do with his life. Toby’s mother is sick and she hired Claudia as her caretaker. That is how they meet and how their turbulent story begins. The story follows their relationship in the frame of two years.
Loving someone through their hard fall from grace takes a lot of grit.
In school, Toby Faye was a moody kid who sat in the back of class and looked like he wanted to be anywhere but there. Claudia Chiametti, the perfect student, always sat in the front row. She might have forgotten him if it weren't for the fact that his family had been involved in two tragic events. In the small town of Sayville, Long Island, many knew of the family’s dark history.
Hired on as a caretaker to Mrs. Faye, Claudia is thrown into the lives of the widow and her son — a world where sadness lingers and old wounds run deep. Now twenty-one, Toby is not so quiet. A mass of muscles and unruly hair, he is a real head turner. He is jaunty with the confidence his masculine good looks afford him. While not immune to his sexual advances, Claudia sees beyond the cocky grin. Up close, his blue-grey eyes expose something else.
Despite her father’s stern warnings about the family’s violent history, Claudia is empathetic to their plight and vows to help both mother and son move past the hurt. This endeavor forces her to face situations she never imagines possible. She must be tougher than she's ever had to be. Does Claudia have the grit to love Toby through his fall?
Saving Toby, the author's debut novel, is the first book of a two-part story that follows the emotional and gritty tale of a young couple's journey to find themselves and the love they never dreamed existed.
