Reading the first few chapters of Never Let You Go was intense, because they are heartbreaking. Actually the whole story is pretty heartbreaking, but the first few chapters in particular. It is really needless to say that I was hooked from page one and I did not stop reading until I finished it.
Never Let You Go is an emotional read, and a well written story. Going back and forth in time, the author builds an amazing story about two kids that the world forgot. The scenes from the past are full of brutality and violence, so it was a hard for me to read them. But although this is a story about the suffering of these two forgotten kids this is also a story about second chances. Both Holden and Griselda are deeply wounded characters and they are not living but surviving until they meet again, 10 years after they were separated. Even after they meet it is not all roses and rainbows. Even then their road to their HEA is very rocky one.
I like Holden and Griselda. They are amazing characters. My heart was a bit more with Griselda. She is such a damaged and brave girl at the same time. She fights so many demons and her life is one big mess from a start. Her actions and emotions are believable and it is so easy to understand why she behaves the way she does.
Some very serious issues are raised in this story: from US foster care system, to surviving abuse, learning to trust and love again. The author did an amazing job incorporating these issues into the story.
Never Let You Go is a second book in Katy Regnery’s a Modern fairytale collection. I will definitely read the first one and I am looking forward for the future installments. I highly recommend this story to all who enjoy emotionally charged stories, true love and amazing happy endings.
10 years passed since Holden and Griselda saw one another. He thought she was dead, she could not forgive herself for letting him go. Now they are together again and they have to overcome regrets, grief, fears, and their past, in order to reach their happiness. Will they manage?
Regret, betrayal, kidnapping, loss, madness, abuse, passion, love.
In this modern retelling of Hansel and Gretel, thirteen-year-old foster children Griselda and Holden escape from their abductor after three years of brutal captivity, and try to cross the Shenandoah River on foot. Tragically, one of them makes it to safety, but the other is left behind.
Ten years later, Griselda's boyfriend drags her to a fight club grudge match, and her world is turned upside down when she watches Holden step into the ring.
Though the connection between them is fierce, bitter regret, simmering rage, and a tangle of physical and emotional scars lie between them, just as dangerous as the white water of the Shenandoah.
Never Let You Go is a story of fear and hope, defeat and survival, and two people--once profoundly broken--who discover that love is the only thing that can make them whole again.
This is a standalone novel inspired by Hansel and Gretel.
