My Fake Summer Boyfriend is perfect summer read for every girl age 12 to 15. Although I am very far from this age group the story brought me back to my teenage years and while reading it I remembered all those long hot summers that I spent at my grandparents’ summerhouse.
Told in the first person, from Katie’s POV this sweet and lovely story does not raise any serious issues. It is a story of how an innocent crush turns into a friendship only to turn into first young love. But the story also shows how fragile love is. The love between Katie and Alex develops nicely and they have their happy ending. Also the story does not have any loose ends. Although it is pretty straightforward and predictable, the author did good job with a little plot twist in the last third of the story.
Both main characters are lovable. Katie is typical teenage girl and she does not act beyond her age. Although at first I found her and her behavior a bit irritating I quickly realized that this is a well written character and that probably I acted the same way when I was her age. Alex’s is a bit mysterious, mostly because the reader cannot get his part of the story until the very end. But yet again he is also well written.
All in all My Fake Summer Boyfriend is a light and entertaining read.
