Be careful what you wish for...you just might get it.
What a Duke Dares is the 3rd book in the Sons of Sin Series by Anna Campbell. Set in high society in the early 1800's it is a book that is wrought with things to set your heart ablaze. Well written, I found myself getting caught up in all that is going on in the story. I enjoyed reading it and will be looking for the first 2 books and wondering if there will be any more.
Camden Rothermere grew up with the hint of scandal following his every footstep. Because of this he has spent his entire life trying to rise above it and become a man that is without issue. He sees 'love' as a thing that does nothing but bring you trouble.
Penelope Throne comes from a family that is known for its scandals. There is nary a scandal that has not touched her family in some way.
At 19 Penelope knew that she couldn't marry her childhood friend Cam. The very fact that he refuses to allow love to even be a consideration when it comes to a relationship, much less marriage, is reason enough to refuse his offer of marriage no matter how much she might wish otherwise.
At 28, after spending the last 9 years of her life doing as she wished, she still has not found anyone that she could even come close to loving as she does Cam. So when he shows up to bring her home she intends to do anything she can to maintain her resolve to not give in to him.
A REPUTATION AT RISK
What woman in her right mind would say no to marrying the dashing Duke of Sedgemoor? Miss Penelope Thorne, that's who. She's known Camden Rothermere since they were children-and she also knows she'd bring nothing but scandal to his name.
Cam can hardly believe Penelope turned down his proposal. But if she wants to run off to the Continent and set the rumor mill ablaze, he can't stop her. Then her brother's dying request sends him to bring home the one woman he thought he'd finally gotten over.
The only way they'll both get back to London without their reputations in tatters is to pretend they're married during the journey. That means kissing like they mean it and even sharing a bed-until it becomes hard to tell where the game ends and true desire begins . . .
