Mercy Reynolds has found out the hard way that there are very few people that a “Draman” can depend on and the death of her best friend Rainey has her down by one such person. Rainey was a full blooded dragon and Mercy’s best friend since childhood. Having her die with no one to perform the required rituals to allow her to pass into the beyond is more than Mercy can take. Since it was murder there is another choice…if Mercy can find the people responsible for their car accident and bring them to justice in the next week then on the seventh evening she can perform the ritual to allow her friend to pass into eternity at rest. But there is one small glitch in Mercy’s plans…Damon Ray.
Damon Ray cannot believe that he has to rely on a draman to get him out of a very tight spot. But having Mercy along for the ride is not in his plans. No matter what he does she just will not go away, even though she knows that his job is to kill dragons and draman that break the law. Things just keep heating up the more time that passes. Will he manage to complete his mission and keep himself from doing the one thing he swore never to do…fall in love? Or will Mercy be the one person that is not afraid of “Death”?
I am a big fan of Keri Arthur and when I got the chance to review her new book Mercy Burns I jumped at the chance and I was so NOT disappointed. Even though this is not a Riley Jenson book it is as good or better than what I have come to expect from Keri Arthur. I had a bad time putting it down to get anything else done. My only question is…“Is this the start of a new series? Or are we going to be stuck with just this one book?” I seriously hope this is the start of another kicking series by Keri Arthur.
LOVE ABIDES. BUT . . .
Mercy Reynolds is a reporter in the San Francisco Bay area, but she’s also more—and less—than human. Half woman, half air dragon, she’s a “draman”—unable to shift shape but still able to unleash fiery energy. Now something will put her powers to the test.
Mercy’s friend Rainey has enlisted her help to solve her sister’s murder. Then a horrible accident claims Rainey’s life, leaving Mercy only five days to find the killer: If Mercy fails, according to dragon law, Rainey’s soul will be doomed to roam the earth for eternity. But how can Mercy help when she herself is a target? With nowhere else to turn, she must join forces with a sexy stranger—the mysterious man they call “Muerte,” or death itself, who’s as irresistible as he is treacherous. But can even Death keep Mercy alive for long enough to find her answers?
