The Lawman

Blaze #565 - Blaze Historicals

U.S. Marshal Jared Evans has one thing on his mind – to find the outlaw who killed his only remaining relative, his sister-in-law, ten years ago. He vows that no matter how long it takes him to find Cal Thornton; he’ll find him and put him behind bars so he can’t kill any more innocent victims. Finding a lead, he heads to Colorado. When he starts searching the small mining town of Gideon’s Hope, he stumbles upon a little more than he has bargained for.
Samantha Blair will do everything in her power to protect the three men that she loves that have adopted her and raised her after her mother passed away. Referring to them as her “godfathers,” she’ll fight to her death, if need be, to ensure their safety. It seems when she unexpectedly meets U.S. Marshal Jared Evans he’s out for blood on one of her godfathers. Dressed like a man to hide that she’s really a woman, Sam is prepared to kill if she has to and it seems that Jared won’t back off from her threats. As he proceeds toward her to continue his search of the small town, she does the next best thing to stop him– she shoots him in the leg to make her point more clear that he’s unwelcomed there.
Jared thinks this shooter is crazy. He’s in excruciating pain and he’s losing quite a bit of blood from his leg. As he’s lying on the ground, he can’t believe that now the shooter has a conscience and decides to medically assist him. As the shooter approaches him, he realizes that it’s really a woman dressed in man’s clothing. Sam feels guilty and doesn’t want Jared to die. She just wouldn’t be able to live with herself having a U.S. Marshal’s blood on her hands. So she brings him to one of her godfathers, the healer, and assists with the ongoing medical treatment he needs. During his recovery, Sam and Jared both realize they are attracted to each other, but know that nothing can develop between them. Or can it?
Does Jared find out that Cal Thornton is in Gideon’s Hope? How extensive is the damage he received to his leg? While he’s recovering does he get the opportunity to know Sam more intimately?
I thoroughly enjoyed this historical romance penned by Ms. Potter. The characters came alive on the pages and made me feel as if I was part of their story. I fell in love with both Samantha and Jared and even though their situation was odd, I had hoped that they would act upon their attraction for each other. The storyline was extremely creative and I loved being transported back in time. If you’re looking for a great read to really lose yourself in then you must pick this one up. You won’t be disappointed!
