In ancient Mayan ruins that were hidden deep in the Mexican jungle, Jaden Quantrill decided to ditch civilization for the weekend to spend time with her lover and soul mate, Raphael Estes. While nestled in the jungle, they made sweet love to each other. As they were making love, they heard a crack, like a board hitting another board echo throughout the stone blocks that surrounded them. Then something thudded to the ground by Jaden's ear and tore at her hair.
With blood flowing down his chest, it didn't take long for Jaden to realize that Raphael had been shot. The bullet went clear through his chest and thankfully didn't hit Jaden in the process. They realized it wasn't a silver bullet and that it was just thrill-seeking poachers on the hunt.
Hearing the sounds of the poachers approaching, she tried helping Raphael to move. He was losing too much blood though. He told Jaden to leave him and reassured her that she knew what had to be done. Reluctantly, she left her soul mate and sprang into action.
What did Jaden set out to accomplish? Would she be okay by herself in setting out to achieve her goal? Would Raphael pull through in the end or would it be too late for him?
Although this is a short story penned by Donna Michaels, from the very first line I was grabbed. There is quite a bit of suspense and action within these few short pages. I was on the edge of my seat wondering what will happen next. I am a big fan of Donna's and I just love her writing style. I would definitely urge any reader to pick up one of her stories. I guarantee you will be hooked too.
