The Homecoming

Shelter Bay #1

When Sax Douchett, a former Navy SEAL, returns home from the war, all he wants to do is leave the tragedies of war behind him and move on with his life. But it seems the people in his hometown of Shelter Bay, Oregon want to honor him as their local hero. Although honored by their sentiment, he feels he doesn’t truly deserve it.

As he starts adjusting to being back home, he’s happy to see Sheriff Kara Conway again. She was married to Sax’s best friend, a former Marine and town police officer, until he died in the line of duty. You see, Kara and Sax have grown up together and she definitely has a special place in his heart. The sad thing is she doesn’t even know it.

It seems that now since Sax is home, he’s helping out wherever he can in the town – including trying to help Kara find her father’s murderer. He’d do anything to help Kara find the peace of mind she deserves by finding the murderer and giving her the opportunity to put him behind bars once and for all.

Does Sax finally admit to Kara how he’s always felt for her? Do they finally find her father’s murderer? Is Kara the person that can help Sax move on with his life?

I have to say this was one of the best books I’ve read for this summer so far. Ms. Ross penned such emotion into her storyline and created characters that you easily fall in love with. I loved the underlying mystery plot of who shot Kara’s father and when the murderer’s identity was finally revealed, I was completely shocked. This is a book you should definitely add to your summer reading list! I’m new to this author and her work, but I’m definitely a huge fan now!

Drawn back into his life is Sheriff Kara Conway, his best friend’s girl for a long as he can remember---a girl who always held a special place in Sax’s heart. But as he cautiously reconnects with Kara and bonds with her young son, another long-held secret in Shelter Bay threatens their second chance at a forever-after love.
