Jillian Wilson couldn't wait for her freedom from all of her responsibilities to start. She decided to close the hardware store that was left to her and her brother by their late father in Gladewater, Texas and take a weekend away in Dallas from everyone and everything that she knew.
Once she got settled into her hotel room, she decided to leave a message for a her good friend, Jason Harris, that said, "Uh, Jason, it's Jillian. I don't want you to worry. I'm not pregnant." Unfortunately, he and his fianc‚e, Kelly, were also away for the weekend. His brother, Derek, got the message off of the machine and he couldn't believe what he had just heard. Was this the reason that Kelly was so reluctant to go through the wedding? He couldn't just sit there and let things fall apart. He was going to take matters into his own hands and set the record straight with Jillian that she had no business messing around with his engaged brother.
Heading over to the hotel that Jillian was staying out, he was infuriated. How could Jason be messing around behind Kelly's back? He knocked on Jillian's door and once she saw who it was, she dreaded letting him in. She didn't want to open the door to heartache again. What happened in the past was staying in the past, right? After confronting her about the message she left for Jason, she couldn't help but find the situation extremely funny. Derek, by no means, found any humor in what he thought was really going on.
She decided to tell him what the real situation was. She explained to Derek that she had a conversation with Jason after her father's funeral. She told him what her plans were for the future now and that things have changed so drastically for her and her brother since both their parents were now gone. Her plan involved what she called "the pregnancy plan." And, no, Jason wasn't part of the plan either. She was getting older and wanted to have a child. Unfortunately, she hadn't met anyone who she would settle down with and marry. So she decided having a child on her own was a good option for her. Unfortunately, though having Derek sit across from her brought all the memories flooding back from when they dated years ago. She remembered though that he didn't want to be tied down in any way. His job was too dangerous to be attached to anyone for too long a period of time. He was ex-military and got himself a good job in the Middle East providing security for oil execs while they travel overseas. He was basically on call all the time.
Since he surprisingly still had feelings for Jillian, he offered to be her sperm donor. They were inseparable, in more ways than one, that entire weekend. By the end of the weekend, he wanted to ask her to marry him. If she was now carrying his child that was the least he could do to take care of the both of them. By Monday morning, he received a call for another security mission and he had to leave as soon as possible. He told her to email him the answer to whether she was pregnant or not and than he proposed to her by giving her his mothers' round ruby and gold ring. She had doubts that marriage was the answer for them and they argued. She told him that they should wait and he angrily left for his mission.
A few weeks later, she emailed him to tell him that she was indeed pregnant with his child. He was thrilled by the news and wanted more and more to leave this assignment since he had such a bad feeling about it. He finally got fed up and terminated the assignment. While he and his team were driving away, an explosion occurred nearby and Derek and many others were seriously injured and others killed.
While he was in the hospital in Germany recovering, he couldn't stop asking for his wife, Jillian. When she was contacted about the accident, she lied that she was indeed married to him. Once he got back to the States, he moved into her house. He was suffering with large chucks of memories that were just lost, bu
"A pregnancy plan?" Derek's words came from directly behind her.
She could feel his breath on her neck, his eyes boring into her back.
"Yes, a plan on how to get pregnant." The frustration and anger began to build within her. Jillian gathered her shaking hands around her cup and willed them to be still. "Look, Derek, I don't mean to sound rude, but it really is none of your business what I do. I'm not involved with Jason."
She saw his unwillingness to cooperate by the slight narrowing of his eyes. "You can rest assured that I am not going to break up your brother, Jason and Kelly." Jillian glanced back out the window and took a sip from her drink. "And my plan is none of your concern."
She jumped when she felt Derek's hand on her shoulder. "What is it you're afraid of?"
Jillian turned and pushed past him. She didn't want nor need his sympathy.Out of space with the door in front of her, she pivoted on the heels of her Nikes. "I'm not afraid of anything. I know what I want and I have come up with a plan to get it."
