Officer Garrett Jamison and his family have been through a lot lately. Garrett is second guessing all his instincts at being a cop and decides that he needs to take a leave of absence from the force to get his head straight again. He’s dealing with so much right now that the best thing for him to do is just take time off from the job. After setting his sister Sara up, unbeknownst to him, with a dirty cop, then ultimately getting shot, and let’s not forget about having his nephew kidnapped right out from Ethan’s bed, Garrett just needs to desperately get his life back into some semblance of normalcy. He plans on using this time away from his job to make some hard decisions about his future. But after meeting his family’s new next door neighbor and her mangy cat, Garrett seems more distracted than ever.
Jessica McGovern and her cat, Mr. Louie, have moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin to start a new life. After living through losing her only child and her ex-husband being convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of their young son, Marky, Jessica wants to start a new chapter in her life and put everything in order as best she can. Moving next door to her hunky neighbor, Garrett, just seems to add to the problems though because he’s as arrogant and cocky as he is good looking. The last thing she needs right now is another man in her life. The last man, who happened to be her ex-husband, just turned everything upside down for her. So she makes a promise to herself that Garrett is only going to be her friend, nothing more.
Since the attraction between Garrett and Jessica runs deep on so many levels, can they truly just keep things on a friendship basis? Would it be so bad though if they wanted more out of life and saw each other as that person who would be able to fulfill their needs and desires? Could a relationship even work between them since they are both at crossroads in their lives?
Ms. Rogers did a wonderful job capturing the thoughts and feelings both Garrett and Jessica were going through. I felt as if I knew the both of them personally and I wanted them to find the happiness and contentment they were both searching for. I instantly fell in love with Garrett and felt bad that he was seriously having doubts with his ability at being an officer because of the serious issues that plagued him and his family not so long ago. I had hoped that his leave of absence would provide him the answers he was searching for and allow him to close that chapter of his life so he could make a fresh start. I fell in love with Jessica because she was this sweet girl that just had been dealt a really bad hand in life. She too needed to close the chapter of her past and look ahead to making a fresh start for her and Mr. Louie. Speaking of Mr. Louie, I just loved how comical that cat was throughout the story. Ms. Rogers did a wonderful job with this story overall and I would highly recommend it to others. I guarantee you’ll walk away having a crush on Garrett, as I did, while reading the story. Nicely done!
