Jordan Mitchell-Ryan experienced a loss that was truly unimaginable. While shopping late one night in the local corner store with her husband, Eric, the store got held up while they were in there. The gunman shot Eric and he died. Since that tragedy, she hadn't been the same bubbly person she always had been. She was suffering from nightmares that kept making her relive the whole tragedy over and over again. Her family supported her as best they could, but only Jordan could be the one to decide when to move on again.
Sadly, a very close friend of the family that she grew up with and the same guy that she was secretly in love with through the years, Cole McCall, also suffered a devastating tragedy. His wife, Bess, decided that she was going to bring him dinner while he was working late one night. On her way there, she was hit head on by a tractor trailer driver. The truck driver had fallen asleep at the wheel. Bess had died later that night. Since that night, Cole was not the same person. He turned cold and insensitive to everyone including Jordan and he too suffered terrible nightmares.
Years had passed and the Mitchells and McCalls were getting together again to have a fortieth wedding anniversary party for Alex and Corrine McCall. The four parents schemed together and had a whole plan of action to get Jordan and Cole to be sociable to everyone again and they hoped that the love they had for each other years ago might blossom again now. No matter what it took, they were all going to make this happen. Their parents felt that after two years of suffering it was definitely time for the both of them to move on with their lives. They knew fireworks would explode, but no one could prepare themselves for the outcome that really occurred.
Did the scheming by the Mitchells and McCalls work out or did it backfire in all their faces? How did Jordan and Cole feel about it once they knew what their families were up to? Was this the right timing for them to start something together or was everyone just fooling themselves? Could Jordan and Cole ever get past the loss of their spouses and move forward again toward living happy lives? Would it be possible for these two to live a happy life together?
Ms. Michaels penned a remarkable story that was heart wrenching and heartwarming at the same time. The characters were extremely believable and I was hoping the entire time that Jordan would be the one to break down Cole's walls and make him start living again. This is a story that you shouldn't pass up. I would love to see a sequel dedicated to Kerri and Connor, Jordan's sister and Cole's brother. You outdid yourself, Donna. Fantastic job!
