Twenty-three year old Cassandra Claire was taken into the Hawkin Brothers Ranch right after her father passed away. For five years she lived and breathed ranch life and worked just as hard as any male ranch hand. But she had a deep hidden secret that was driving her mad. She was in love with one of the brothers named Connor. She couldn't help but find herself staring at him whenever he was around her. Her heart would race so intensely she thought it would nearly explode in her chest. She desired this man so much, but was too coward to let him know just how she felt about him.
Connor Hawkins loved Montana ranching life more than anything else. Over the five years that Cassie lived with him and his two brothers, Cain and Caleb, he grew very close to her. He loved being around her and knew he had feelings for her, but deep down knew she would never be able to accept the deep dark secret he withheld from her. He knew it would repulse her to know what his secret was and he just wouldn't be able to live with that kind of rejection.
Today being Halloween, there was a strange feeling in the air that added to the festive tones of the holiday. Cassie felt it, but just couldn't put her finger in what that feeling was just yet. Since one of their friends, Mavis Pritchard, was throwing a Halloween party, everyone was going except for Connor. Cassie was going to try everything in her power to convince Connor to go to the party because she felt in her gut that tonight was the night she was going to make her feelings known to him. Or at least try to tell him. With much coaxing he caved in and told her he would be at the party. He knew this would only complicate matters more because tonight being the full moon on Halloween night was the exact night that could change his life forever in more ways than one.
You see, Connor had demon blood coursing through his veins for the last two hundred years. He hated the demon inside him and wanted in the worse way to ask Cassie's help in converting him to a complete man, but he wasn't certain if she would even go for the ritual that needed to be performed. The ritual consisted of a woman being completely in love with her demon partner and then drinking his seed. This would rid him of the demon inside and make him human again able to produce children now. If she didn't truly love him then the ritual was a failed attempt for him. There would be no other chances afterward and he would not only be coexisting with the demon, but he could not ever reproduce children.
Did Cassie truly love Connor enough to fulfill the ritual for him to be completely human? If so, was the attempt successful?
I really enjoyed this story and thought the storyline was fascinating. My heart went out to Connor for being burdened with this demon living inside of him. I found myself hoping that Cassie and Connor would get together and she would help him with the ritual as a show of love to him. This story is a definite keeper in my library.
Rancher Connor Hawkins despises every drop of demon blood that courses through his veins. He would give just about anything to become human. The only way he can make that happen is to participate in a darkly sensual ritual under a rare full Halloween moon with a woman who loves him unconditionally. He's got the full moon, if only he can risk his heart and tell Cassandra Claire what he really is.
Cassie Claire thinks she already knows the real Connor, and she's been in love with him since she was eighteen years old. They've shared a unique friendship from the day her father died and Connor brought her home to live with his family. But she's twenty-three now, and on this Halloween night she's determined to make the stoic, stubborn Connor open his eyes and finally see her for the strong, capable young woman she's become.
But it's hard to trust when you never have, and Connor has precious little time before the full Halloween moon wanes, not to be seen again for many, many years. He has to tell her, but if he does, will she love him enough to do what must be done?
They'll both find out, one passionate night under a Demon Moon.
