This book is broken down into a three story anthology by three very talented authors.
In Friendly Fire by Jill Shalvis, Lexi McGowen decides to head over to Cord Madden’s apartment to take a shower since her showerhead is broken. She knows that her best friend Cord is away in the army still and what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him. That is until he comes home injured and finds his beautifully sexy, dripping wet best friend in his shower. What is a man to do? Does he act on the first impulse he has when he sees Lexi? Could they take their friendship to the next level without complicating things in the process?
The second story, The Prodigal by Rhonda Nelson, finds us in Hickory Grove, Mississippi where Major Chase Harrison comes home on temporary leave because his father has passed away. Having only a short time to settle all his father’s loose ends, Chase enlists the help of Rori Whitaker, his father’s secretary and close friend. A spark ignites between these two and makes them question how everything should be handled now since Holland has passed on and Chase must return to continue his tour of duty. Is it smart to start something with Rori while so many obstacles are in their way? Do they decide to take a chance on love and see how things turn out for them?
In the final story, Packing Heat by Karen Foley, Megan O’Connell becomes friends with her boss’ son, Staff Sergeant Matt Talbot who is a US Marine sniper. They converse for months on end and her letters are what keep Matt sane while overseas. Now getting a chance to meet face to face is nerve wracking at best, but so worth it. Can an innocent friendship turn into something more for them? Is Megan the girl he wants to spend the rest of his life with? Or should they decide to just remain friends?
I loved this 4th of July anthology and thought each of the authors did a superb job telling each of their characters’ stories. Each story made you fall in love with their male military characters and your heart just breaks for them for what they suffered through while serving their country. I found each story satisfying and the sex scenes are sizzling hot! These authors know how to transport you into their story and entertain you right to the very end. I think this is the perfect anthology to take along with you on your beach trip or when you’re lounging by the pool. You don’t want to pass this one up!
