I absolutely adored Toby and loved his message to children that they should be a buddy and not a bully to other people. Ms. Hammond clearly knows how to bring this positive message across to school age children and she does it so well by having Toby, the Pet Therapy Dog, tell how he reacted to being bullied at the park one day. Children and adults alike will fall in love with this fun loving Lab and his wonderful positive advice that we all should follow. Also included in this book is a list of questions to ask children to enhance their critical thinking skills after reading Toby’s story. There’s also “Toby’s Rules for Being a Buddy, Not a Bully” List along with some fun things Toby suggests people say to each other like, “Thank You” and “Be a good friend.” Included is the website in which you and your child can print out the special Toby award that he received while visiting a school because he didn’t bully the dog that bullied him at the park. Toby is the perfect role model for children. This is a wonderful book to use as a learning tool to teach kids to be friends not bullies to each other. The book has adorable illustrations included to enhance the storyline and I feel that the story would be perfectly geared toward children ages 3 to 10. This is a wonderful addition to add to your home or school libraries. This is my first Toby book that I’ve read and it won’t be my last. Toby has made a new fan in me. Well done, Ms. Hammond!
When Toby is bullied at the park by another dog that shreds his beloved teddy bear, Toby is hurt, but doesn’t get into a fight with the dog. Instead, he walks away and remains a buddy not a bully to the other dog. Enhanced with fun illustrations for you and your child to enjoy, Toby is definitely the perfect role model for children to learn from.
When Toby steps into the path of a dog who bullies him, and shreds his beloved stuffed teddy-bear toy, we see the hurt feelings it creates. This beautifully illustrated book, Toby, the Pet Therapy Dog, Says be a Buddy NOT a Bully, uses Toby, a therapy dog, to teach children about the importance of kindness, respect, acceptance, and being considerate of others, including pets. A wonderful story to start discussions in ages to 3 to 10.
