This was a good story in how two people who were dating in college years ago have since ran into each other recently and have taken the time to discuss why Brooke had suddenly left college without a single word to Colin. All these years, he’d wondered why she decided to abruptly leave without discussing what might have caused her to do such a rash thing when it seemed they were getting close. But a surprising development brings Colin at a crossroads in his life and I have to admit, I wasn’t certain how everything was going to pan out for them in the end. I do have two things that irked me while reading this story. The first thing was if they were as close as the author had written them to be during their college years, then why hadn’t they already discussed Colin’s sad and unfortunate childhood that he lived through? It was because of his sad circumstances that he felt the way he did about children. Second, once Colin and Brooke had run into each other and now were talking again, was it necessary for the author to continually repeat the same facts about his childhood experiences and why these same examples shaped him into the person he was today? I felt it was unnecessarily redundant to say the same thing continually throughout the story as if we hadn’t read it other times while flipping the pages.
Colin is on a mission to win the new western director of sales position with the company he works for so he can take his career to the next level. In preparation, he must win a few more contracts with hospitals who are interested in purchasing the hospital software program he’s selling. All goes well until he runs into Brooke again, his college sweetheart. Now is as a good a time as any to find out why she abruptly left school without talking to him beforehand. When they begin talking about the past they had together, Colin still doesn’t understand Brooke’s lame reasoning as to why she left the way she did. But one emergency situation, in which Colin is asked to help, seems to provide the missing link he’s been looking for all these years. How does he deal with the news he receives? Where does it leave him and Brooke now that he has found out the truth?
