Jill Clemmons briefly returns to her hometown of Adams Grove for her grandmother Pearl's surprise birthday party. It's been a year since her last visit and her grandmother misses her terribly. Ironically, Jill finds out that Pearl knew all along about the party and even took the liberty of inviting a guest of her own who just so happens to be Jill's ex-fianc‚, Garrett Malloy. But Jill will only be around for the day and then she'll return back in a few days once she hosts the benefit she's been planning all year for the Kase Foundation that she works for.
While working for Bradley Kase, the owner of the foundation, a romance blossomed between them, but deep down Jill doesn't feel for Bradley the way she did for Garrett years ago. But Garrett is in the past and she has moved on with her life. Or so she tries convincing herself and everyone around her. But while she's away tending to business she receives the most unsettling call from Garrett. Pearl's house has been broken into and Pearl has passed away. As Garrett is talking to her she finds out that he has spoken to Bradley about the situation earlier in the day when Bradley decided to answer Jill's phone for her. The sad part is Bradley decided that he wanted Jill to have a great time at the benefit gala so he didn't tell her of her grandmother's passing. When she finds out from Garrett, who thought she already knew of the news, she's rocked to the core because of Bradley's deception. She immediately leaves and heads back to Adams Grove to tend to her grandmother's affairs.
Once Jill returns to the house her grandmother owned and sees all the love built within the four walls, she longs for that for herself. She's even thinking about permanently staying in Adams Grove and telling Bradley that things are over between them. But never did she think that once her grandmother's will would be read that there were going to be stipulations in it that Pearl wanted followed to the letter or else she couldn't inherit the house and land. As if adding insult to injury, now there is a string of break-ins happening and it seems that Jill's life is in danger. Garrett won't stand idly by and watch the woman he still loves get hurt, so he vows that he'll do everything in his power to protect her. Little do they know that both their lives are in danger now.
Who is doing all the break-ins in this sleepy town of Adams Grove? What are they in search of that they're causing the town so much worry and grief? Do Jill and Garrett eventually work everything out and decide to take another shot at a relationship together?
I absolutely loved this story! I instantly fell in love with Jill and Garrett and from the time I met them I wanted them to get back together again. I wanted them to be able to work through their past issues and hopefully see that they still had feelings for each other. I hated Bradley and everything he stood for from the moment he was introduced into the story. I became so angry when I learned that he decided not to tell Jill immediately that her grandmother had passed away as not to spoil her mood for his foundation's gala they were holding. He was a devious man looking out only for himself all the time and I felt that Jill could do so much better. I knew the perfect man for her was and always had been Garrett and I wanted them back together no matter how long it took them to work past their previous issues together. If you're looking for a story that has a little bit romance, comedy and mystery all rolled into one, look no further because this is the perfect pick. I highly recommend this story and hope that there will be more stories in the future set in Adams Grove!
