I thought this was a good book at times, but other times I found it a task to get through so I could review it. Stick dog is a cute, simple drawing of a stick dog that is on a mission to steal hamburgers from a family who is picnicking in the park. The book is simpleminded in the storyline and graphics and because of this I think some children will find it amusing, while others may not. The thing that drove me the craziest was the digression off topic that the author did throughout the book. Because of this constant talking off topic, which was done more frequently than not, it made some chapters feel like they would never end for me. I thought the idea of a stick dog was cute, but since I have to give an overall rating to the book I have to say that it was just okay for me. This book is geared toward middle grade children, but I’d like to mention that some of the vocabulary used might be a bit too intense for a reluctant reader. I’d definitely suggest reading along with them to give them that added boost of confidence so they can enjoy the full storyline as it was meant to be enjoyed by them.
Stick Dog is a simple dog with one thing in mind- to steal some hamburgers from a nearby picnic in the park. As we learn about Stick Dog, we are also introduced to a few of his dog friends that follow him throughout the story. They help Stick Dog come up with different ideas of how to get the people to give them hamburgers. The ultimate question is does Stick Dog and his friends ever get the hamburgers they’re craving?
