Ruby Hill

Ashley Pearce, a paranormal investigator, has always been drawn to Ruby Hill Lunatic Asylum that has been closed for some time now. Oddly enough, she’s called upon by the local police to do an investigation there because two murders have occurred in the abandoned asylum and they have no leads as to why this is happening. Grasping at straws, they decided to call upon her to see if they can find out if the two victims were harmed by any lingering souls still existing in the asylum. The superior assigned to the case intentionally leaves out the information to crime scene expert, Corbin Malone, that the paranormal team they called in is none other than Ashley’s, his ex-girlfriend. These two murders aren’t the only problems in need of some solutions. What happens when Ashley and Corbin see each other again after their disastrous break-up? Are they finally able to forgive each other and move on with their lives?

Right from the start, I was pulled into this storyline. I felt like I was another person wandering around the asylum looking for answers to everything that had happened there recently. When Corbin first saw Ashley again, I could feel the tension in the air as if I was standing next to the both of them watching them interact with each other. I desperately wanted them to talk things out and find some closure so they could move forward again in their lives. This is a great short story that I highly recommend reading. I feel you won’t be disappointed picking this one up. Well done, Ms. Ballance!

Book Blurb for Ruby Hill

From her earliest memories, Ashley Pearce has been drawn to Ruby Hill Lunatic Asylum, and she's not the only one. Decades after the abandoned hospital ended its institutional reign of torture and neglect, something lurks in the shadows. Since she’s a paranormal investigator, it's Ashley's job to find out what.

Crime scene expert Corbin Malone doesn't believe in ghosts. A born skeptic, he has no interest in entertaining the hype surrounding the mysterious deaths at Ruby Hill, but he won't turn his back while more women die. He agrees to an overnight investigation, never expecting his first encounter would be with the woman he pushed away a year ago. But when he discovers Ashley is a target, he learns his greatest fear isn't living with his own demons, but losing her for good.
