Playing the Part

Ms. Daniel penned an enjoyable story in which we find Anthea Cane, a successful action star, going back to her hometown of Mayfield for inspiration on her next movie audition. She wants to do some research on what it would be like to be a farmer’s wife and who better to help her achieve the information she’s seeking but none other than her childhood friend, Cole Daniel. She figures since they haven’t seen each other since she left town when she was eight years old, Cole will never realize who she really is. How wrong she is. It seems he knows who she is and he’s not too open to accepting her back into his life, no matter how brief a stay it might be, because all she used to do was torment him. Now, here’s where I really didn’t like Anthea. First she wants to lie to him and then I find out that they had a rocky past together in which she made fun of him when they were younger. Now, being together, she doesn’t seem to have any regrets of her behavior all those years ago. Putting all that aside, I did enjoy how the author did a fresh take on how Cole was the inexperienced lover while Anthea had to show him some of the ropes. It’s extremely rare that you find the man the sexually inexperienced one and to me it made the storyline enjoyable because it was so different. I felt bad for Cole and I hoped that Anthea wasn’t going to play any games to intentionally hurt Cole in the end. Overall, I enjoyed this story and recommend it to other readers.

When Anthea Cane finds out that there’s a role of a lifetime available for one of her favorite novels, she jumps at the chance for an audition. She’ll do whatever it takes to prepare for this role no matter what she has to do to land the part. So she travels back to her hometown of Mayfield in hopes that her childhood friend, Cole Daniel, can help her prepare for the role. Since he’s a farmer what better way to learn how to be a farmer’s wife for the movie role than to play the part firsthand. Cole sees right through Anthea and her fake identity that she tells him so he wouldn’t recognize her, but once the cards go on the table, all bets are off for these two. Does Anthea land the role of a lifetime? Does something more serious stem from the time they spend together? Can they both forgive the past and start fresh together?
