My heart went out to poor Becca Sanders because due to her mother passing away and her father passing the responsibility of raising her brother onto her, she had to put her dreams on the back burner so she could raise Toby. Becca dreamed of traveling the world, but that had to wait a few years until Toby turned eighteen years old.
Now that Toby is eighteen, Becca wants to follow her dreams before it’s too late. She hates being in the small gossipy town of Kortville, Illinois because too many people are in your business all of the time. But things don’t go as smoothly as planned because not only has she been bogged down with the responsibility of raising Toby, but also she’s been trying to avoid the town sheriff, Connor O’Malley, who used to be a former boyfriend. Since he’s been back from his military service in Afghanistan, Connor decided two years ago to finally come back to their small town again because he considered it home to him.
I really felt bad for Becca because she gave up so much to make certain she kept her promise to her mom before she passed away that she’d raise Toby. All her hopes and dreams had to be pushed aside to make Toby her number one priority. The ironic part was that Toby didn’t even want what Becca wanted for him. As for Connor, I felt so bad for him because not only was he dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder due to his military service time in Afghanistan and losing his best friend, but also he had been tiptoeing around Becca for the past two years since he’s been home. I wanted them to finally come together and start discussing the things that were bothering the both of them. No matter what, I wanted these two together and I wanted to see them lean on each other for support in order to start the healing that they both needed. It was time for them to finally start facing their issues and to finally move on with their lives. I would definitely recommend this heartwarming story to other readers.
All Becca Sanders wants to do is leave the small town of Kortville and travel the world, but because of a promise she made to her mother before she passed away and a father who didn’t want to be there for her and her brother, Becca had assumed the responsibility of raising Toby alone while putting all of her dreams on hold. Now that Toby is eighteen, she figures that once he’s in college, she can finally start living her life again and she can begin to travel like she’s always wanted to. But things aren’t always so easy and she hits a few snags along the way. One of those being that now she has to come face to face with the very man who broke her heart when they were teenagers. To make matters even more complicated, Connor O’Malley becomes Toby’s mentor. This means that both Becca and Connor can’t continue to hide from each other like they’ve both been doing these past two years he’s been home from the service. When they finally come face to face, how do they both feel about each other? Do they start talking about the past to finally begin the healing process together? Could another shot at a relationship be in the cards for these two?
Sometimes dreams are where you least expect them
Connor O’Malley and Becca Sanders were once high school sweethearts, ripped apart by rumors in the small town of Kortville, Illinois. Connor left to join the military, and Becca stayed, waiting for her younger brother to graduate so she could live her dreams of traveling the world. But now that Connor's back as the town sheriff, Becca finds herself struggling to resist the too-handsome man who once broke her heart.
Connor loves Kortville—its quaintness keeps at bay the painful memories of Afghanistan he’s sure make him unworthy of any woman, particularly the beautiful brunette he’s always secretly dreamed of a future with. But when a scandal rocks the town, suddenly Connor and Becca must trust in each other if they want to weather this storm…and come out on the other side of it together.
