I found this story to be not only a fun, flirty romance, but also a heartwarming one in which we find the characters facing some bumps in the road, but each personally growing and learning to forgive along the way. We’re introduced to Dani Sullivan, a registered nurse who is learning to deal with the recent death of her mother and she decides to take some time off from her job so she can not only recharge her batteries, but also work on the cookbook she wants to publish soon. She’s at a crossroads in her life because she’s ready to face a decision she made eight years ago and see if it was the right thing she decided on at the time. Making the trip to Lake Bliss, Michigan will be a bittersweet one for her in more ways than one. My heart went out to Dani because I felt she made the right decision eight years ago, but I could understand how she was ready to see how the outcome of that decision turned out for everyone now.
When she arrives in Lake Bliss, she meets up with Matt Reagan and his young son, Sam. Matt is getting over a bad divorce and acclimating to the new job as town sheriff. When Dani and Matt meet each other, there is definitely chemistry burning between them. Even though he outwardly flirts with Dani quite often, he has his son’s best interest at heart. Sam needs a mother who will treat him like he’s her biological son and make him a priority like his dad does.
I loved the connection Dani and Matt had with each other and I wanted them to take a shot at a relationship together. I wanted them to slowly work at something meaningful with each other and I wanted them to make certain that they were comfortable with the decisions they were making regarding one another. The characters were so believable and easily relatable. They both had some tough situations from their pasts, but together they seemed to be able to move mountains. I highly recommend this story and I’m eagerly looking forward to seeing what else this author has available for her readers. Well done, Ms. Rutland!
