I really loved reading this Amish mystery. In this story, we’re introduced to Claire Weatherly, a newly divorced woman who decides to go visit her aunt in Heavenly, Pennsylvania to get her life back on track. Once in this quaint town, Claire begins to feel a sense of home there and she decides to make the visit a permanent stay. She even decides to open her own shop called Heavenly Treasures and employs an Amish woman named Esther to help in the day to day business. But all doesn’t remain calm and quaint when the former owner of Claire’s store is found murdered. Although many didn’t like Walter Snow because of his unfair business practices, all fingers point to Claire because she owns the business now and Esther because she works there. Soon the peace and quiet of the small town is traded in for a full-fledged criminal investigation of anyone who has ever had contact with Walter and might wish him dead.
I thought this was a fun Amish based mystery in which readers will learn about the Amish and their very different lifestyles from the English people. I’m a big lover of Amish novels and this book was no exception. I felt bad for Claire and Esther because of course them both being present employees in the exact location that Walter owned didn’t leave much to clear their names at first. The characters were charming to get to know and I loved the quaintness of the town. The author surely did her homework with entwining the Amish culture within her mystery storyline. The one gripe I did have was that I felt the ending was a bit too rushed for my taste. I wish it would have been a bit longer to tie up things a bit better, but having said that, I still enjoyed this Amish mystery very much.
