Gabriel

A Secrets and Sins Novel

I loved this story because of the deep rooted suspenseful storyline the author wrote. We find Leah Brannon, a private investigator, deciding to reopen a cold case that involved the disappearance of her uncle; the only man who after her mother died took her under his wing and raised her. The odd thing was twenty years ago he just vanished without a word and now she feels it should be reopened as a murder case. She asks the help of her four close male friends, but they all seem reluctant to help her find the real answers she needs to know. The one giving her the most resistance is her best friend, Gabriel Devlin, the very man she’s been in love with since she was a teenager.

Gabriel has been through his own private hell these past two years because he witnessed the very accident that tragically ripped his wife and son from his life. Since the accident, Gabriel has been depressed and his spirit is broken. Thankfully with the love and support of his best friend, Leah, he has been able to live another day, but just barely. Now hearing that she wants to reopen the case of her uncle’s disappearance just rips him to the core. He and their three other friends know the truth surrounding Richard’s disappearance and they all have vowed to never let her find out the horrible truth. Since it seems Leah isn’t backing down, he rather help her by protecting her in case anything or anyone tries harming her. He deeply cares for Leah and he’ll never be able to live with himself if something serious happens to her.

Talk about an emotionally packed suspense story. I was immediately drawn into this story and Ms. Simone definitely played with my heartstrings. I had mixed feelings because I wanted Leah to be able to put the past behind her once and for all and I felt she had a right to know what happened to Richard. On the other hand, once I found out what really happened and why her four friends were being so protective of her, I wanted her to drop the case for her own safety. I love the true friendship these five had together, but I especially enjoyed the genuine love flowing between Gabriel and Leah. I wanted to see them take a chance on love together, but I understood why Gabriel was so reluctant to take the next step with Leah. I was riveted to my seat the whole time I was reading this story and I’m looking forward to seeing if the other guys get their own story as well. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

When Leah Brannon decides, as a private investigator, to reopen the disappearance case of Richard, the man who became her childhood guardian after her mother died, she’s met with plenty of opposition from her four close male friends. They know the truth about Richard and why he disappeared, but they vowed to take that information to their graves. Since Leah isn’t dropping it, Gabriel decides he needs to change his game plan so he reluctantly begins helping her only to protect her along the way. After losing his wife and son, the heartbreak of the tragedy nearly killed him as well. Knowing he could lose Leah, too, would be the final breaking point for Gabriel and he refuses for that to happen. Does Leah ever find out the truth about Richard’s disappearance? Does anything happen to her while she’s investigating the case? Do Leah and Gabriel act upon the feelings they have for each other?
