Voyager

Outlander Series, #3

Claire Randall, who was first met in “Outlander”, returned to her own time at the end of “Outlander”, pregnant with Jamie Fraser’s child, after missing from her own time for 2 years. Her first husband Frank took the child, Brianna, as his own until he dies when she is an adult. Claire returned to Scotland after Franks’ death, with Brianna to inform her of the truth behind her parentage. In “Dragonfly in Amber” Claire discovers that Jamie did not die at Culloden and she discovers his true fate, for a time. Claire is supported to return to Jamie by their daughter Brianna. Claire then takes the steps ready to prepare to return to the past and to get back to Jamie.

When Claire and Jamie reunite the book is filled with tense moments, joyous reunions and difficult decisions. Jamie and Claire decide to leave for the new world to ease tensions in Scotland. In the new world there are even more quests to be had.

This book is the third in the Outlander series. Ms. Gabaldon is able to create realistic, likeable characters who you enjoy returning to time and again. Also, the author did an excellent job portraying both the past and present Scotland the trials associated with the new world in the 18th century. I did find some of the book a little long, too many descriptions at points; however, it does provide a clearer picture of what the author is trying to express. I am looking forward to the next book, “Drums of Autumn”.

Book Blurb for Voyager

From the author of the breathtaking bestsellers Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber, the extraordinary saga continues.

Their passionate encounter happened long ago by whatever measurement Claire Randall took. Two decades before, she had traveled back in time and into the arms of a gallant eighteenth-century Scot named Jamie Fraser. Then she returned to her own century to bear his child, believing him dead in the tragic battle of Culloden. Yet his memory has never lessened its hold on her... and her body still cries out for him in her dreams.

Then Claire discovers that Jamie survived. Torn between returning to him and staying with their daughter in her own era, Claire must choose her destiny. And as time and space come full circle, she must find the courage to face the passion and pain awaiting her...the deadly intrigues raging in a divided Scotland... and the daring voyage into the dark unknown that can reunite—or forever doom—her timeless love.
