The story takes place in historical Port Royal, where there are spies, pirates and mysteries abound. Prudence Stone is newly arrived to Port Royal to join her fianc‚ Edward to get married and open a school for children. Once she arrives she is informed that Edward has gone missing and with him her inheritance. People around her quickly inform her that she should give up her search for Edward and to return to England where she will be safe. As she searches for Edward she finds that Edward took her inheritance, spent it and then joined the ship of a famous and dangerous pirate, Diablo Ted. As more and more people try to convince Prudence to return to England and she learns the darker side to Edward, Prudence starts to realize that she is in love with Nathan Frazer.
Nathan Frazer is believed to be a plantation owner when in reality he is a member of the Royal Navy. He is on a secret mission searching for a spy who is giving English secrets to the Spanish. He is also informed that the pirate may know of his true identity.
As Prudence and Nathan's feelings continue to grow, the pirates capture them. As truth comes to light Prudence must decide what to do with her future.
The story was a good one; however it was painful to read because of all the errors. I found this book had many grammatical errors and more fractured sentences than I would have expected from a published book. I wouldn't mind reading this story again after proper editing.
