Burning Alive : The Sentinel Wars
Book one of THE SENTINEL WARS
Helen Day has been plagued by visions of her own death by fire, while a handsome man stands by and smiles. With such an uncertain future Helen has cut herself off from long term attachments as she has always had her visions come true. As Helen has dinner with a friend at a diner, she sees the man from her vision and then all heck turns loose.
Drake is a warrior of the Theronai race. He and his race have sworn to protect humanity from the Synestryn (demon monsters). When a male Theronai is born, he is born with a tattoo of a life tree on their chest, as the Theronai warrior grows, so does their tree and leaves start sprouting. As they begin to absorb the energy from the world around them their leaves start to fall off until they have no more leaves and their soul dies. The only thing that can stop this is finding a woman they can mate with, a special woman who will siphon off the energy and wield that energy as a magical weapon. As soon as Drake touches Helen his pain is gone. As he and his friends attempt to discover why Helen, a human, can have this affect on him they are attacked by the Synestryn and Drake must keep Helen close, to keep them both alive. As Helen is pulled into a world that she never would have believed possible, both Helen and Drake must work together and find out the truth to Helen’s past. Helen must face her deepest fear in order to save them both.
Burning Alive is the first book in the paranormal romance series by Ms. Butcher. I found the book well written and fun to read with engaging main characters and enhancing secondary characters. I am looking forward to the next book as I hope it will answer some questions that have been formed and I would enjoy reading more about Ms. Butcher’s new world.
