Broken

Elena Michaels is unique, she is the only female werewolf and she is pregnant. While Elena deals with the fears of her pregnancy, she gets a call from an old acquaintance who asks her to steal something for him that is in Toronto. It is a letter, supposedly from Jack the Ripper, with a supernatural history behind it. Elena and her Pack decide to take the job and from there things go badly. Elena and her pack inadvertently triggers a portal opening which causes disease, killer rats and zombies to come out. Also, there is the threat that Jack the Ripper was possibly in the portal and is trying to get out.

Clay is the father of Elena's baby. He is also the protector for the Pack Alpha, Jeremy. As things go horribly wrong in Toronto, Clay is torn between protecting Jeremy and Elena. As more Pack members are called in to assist in closing the portal there are fights with zombies, killer rats, new people are met and old friends show up to help.

Elena is the narrator in this fast paced book, where horror, suspense, sarcastic remarks and humor run rampant. Broken is part of the Otherworld series and I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series. This was my first Kelley Armstrong book that I have read and I will be running out to pick up the other books in the series. The next book in the series is called "No Humans Involved" which releases in May 2007. This book was a pleasure to read and I will be adding it to my "keep" pile.

Book Blurb for Broken

In this thrilling new novel from the author of Industrial Magic, a pregnant werewolf may have unwittingly unleashed Jack the Ripper on twenty-first-century- and become his next target. Ever since she discovered she's pregnant, Elena Michaels has been on edge. After all, she's never heard of another living female werewolf, let alone one who's given birth. But thankfully, her expertise is needed to retrieve a stolen letter allegedly written by Jack the Ripper. As a distraction, the job seems simple enough- only the letter contains a portal to Victorian London's underworld, which Elena inadvertently triggers- unleashing a vicious killer and a pair of zombie thugs. Now Elena must find a way to seal the portal before the unwelcome visitors get what they're looking for- which, for some unknown reason, is Elena.
