"All the Way Home" is the first book in the Way Home series by Kim Mills. Ms. Mills is a Canadian military spouse who has branched out from writing on her blog to writing this new military romance series. Ms. Mills isn’t afraid to tug on the heartstrings of the reader and fully pulls the reader into the storyline. The story is captivating, intense and a pleasure to read. The characters are engaging and relevant. This book touches on the scars carried after war and the ongoing battle some deal with PTSD. There is a disclaimer that people dealing with combat related PTSD may find this to be a trigger. I laughed and cried during this book and absolutely am looking forward to reading more from this new author.
Juliette first met Tavish when she was a teenager and he has always been her rock through the years. As they grew up and Tavish went away to military training they stay in touch and Tavish pops back into Juliette’s life before he deploys for Afghanistan. Due to her circumstances Tavish becomes her knight in shining armor once more and settles her in for a new future. Tavish has always loved Juliette and is happy to have her drawn more into his life. When tragedy happens while Tavish is on deployment he comes home a different person. Juliette must decide if she can be his knight in shining armor and help pull him back into the living.
Juliette has been walking through life broken and hurting for years, always relying on her friend Tavish to be there for her when she needs him. As soon as he met her, Tavish knew he would do anything for her, that is, until he enlists in the infantry and leaves town, and possibly Juliette, for good.
Soon the events of 9/11 change everything, and an upcoming deployment to Afghanistan prompts him to reconnect with Juliette 5 years later. Despite the time apart she soon finds herself leaning on him again as their reunion leads to something much more. That’s when tragedy strikes during his deployment, and Tavish comes home shattered. Is Juliette strong enough to offer him the support he has always given her? Will it be enough for both of them to find their way home?
