Little orphan Abby meets her Prince Charming in this delightful regency romance from bestselling author Anne Gracie.
Abigail Chance would do anything - practice any deception - to save her three “sisters”. Dire circumstances call for desperate measures...so even though her hearts not in it...she breaks into a house looking for something to steal. There she finds Lady Beatrice, who's in an even more desperate situation than Abby and her sisters. The would-be burglar is appalled at the criminal neglect the old lady has suffered. Abby offers the only kindness Lady Bea has known in a while. The four Chance sisters are given a second chance when a grateful Lady Bea befriends them - inviting them into her home and presenting them as her nieces.
Nine years ago, Max Davenham left England an impoverished young Lord - only to return a very wealthy self-made man. Naturally, he is suspicious of the four young ladies he finds masquerading as the nieces of his own Aunt Bea. As Max is her only living relative he is baffled at the close relationship between his aunt and the impostors. At first he is livid at the deception - accusing Abby of manipulating his elderly aunt. But there is no denying the way the old lady has blossomed under her companions care. Still, Max is convinced that the girls are hiding something and the arrogant Lord is determined to find out what it is. As soon as he rids himself of this passion he feels for Abby.
There are a lot of things to love about The Autumn Bride. The novel is fantastic with its storyline, witty dialogue, humor, dash of intrigue and most importantly the exciting characters. Even the secondary characters were interesting. My favorite character was the irrepressible Lady Bea. The outrageous old Dame had me in stitches with her outlandish antics and fabrications.
I honestly can't remember the last time I've enjoyed a book quite this much. The Autumn Bride is a story for readers who like their romance with just the right touch of humor along with a bit of intrigue to keep it exciting. I predict The Autumn Bride is going to be “THE” book to add to the TBR list of Historical Romance fans everywhere.
