Rebellion is a completely captivating shifter story. You get a unique plot with multidimensional characters. Plus you get vivid descriptions combined with the wonderful characters. Their falling in love despite their initial contempt for each other made Rebellion one entertaining read.
The setting: The Yaguara jaguar shifters are in the throes of a civil war and they need some muscle to sway the outcome. Enter the wolves who want to study some of the indigenous plant life in the area. The situation is tense with each side contemptuous and distrustful of the other. Turns out the wolves were exactly right to be uneasy, for the jaguars have a few traitors in the ranks and things get dangerous as repeated attempts were made to eliminate the wolves’ emissary and the hero of the story.
Taya and Cole were great characters and it was easy for me to like them. Taya was a fearless warrior who wore her strength like a shield. As a matter of fact it was her shield. Not giving anything away... but given her history I could see why she held everyone at a distance. And the writer strung that detail out for all it was worth, holding Taya's past close to the vest before revealing it to Cole. I'm not sure that it would have mattered if I'd read the previous books or not, but since I hadn't it was like that light bulb moment when everything becomes clear. I thought... now I see why they treated her that way. No wonder she had a chip on her shoulder. You see I liked Taya. She was a character I could enjoy getting to know if she a real person.
What I liked most about Cole was that he accepted Taya for the brave and courageous warrior that she was. I liked that while he obviously wanted to go all possessive and protect Taya... he realized that she needed to stand on her own and not lose any of the respect she had earned. Unusual in a shifter hero... but not an unwelcome change. True too that he came through when it really mattered.
The relationship developed slowly and I liked that. Cause let's face it... no way would I have bought it any other way. The pair started out with nothing but contempt and distrust for each other. At first Taya saw Cole as weak and clumsy and she showed her disgust. And there was no way in hell that Cole was trusting one of the cagey cats... not even the one who saved him. But here's the thing... they shared an explosive chemistry that couldn't be denied. They came to respect and recognize each other’s strength and honor. He would trust her with his life and she would lay it all on the line for her man. See that's happy ending stuff right there but it had to come about slowly.
Rebellion has a great plot with flawless writing. There are memorable characters that I won't soon forget. I definitely recommend it!
Cole Brandt is a wolf shifter, sent by his pack to the Amazon jungle to negotiate a treaty. He's unaware that the kingdom of jaguar shifters he's meant to meet with has split—and Cole's suspicion that jaguars are selfish and deceitful is confirmed when he's seized by the rebel faction.
Taya Silveira, a jaguar shifter and fierce warrior loyal to the king, resents being assigned Cole's rescue. She doesn't approve of his pack's involvement in her jungle—to her, wolves are greedy, weak creatures who will exploit the resources the Yaguara protect.
Struggling against centuries of ill will and prejudice, Cole and Taya must work together to prevent a devastating civil war. They can't deny their physical attraction—with the heightened senses of shifters, their desires are plain. But if they give in to passion, they may be forced to choose between staying with their tribes, or staying together.
