I have enjoyed the Broken Heart series, and this latest one is no exception. The romance was great but the trials Drake and Moira go through were riveting. The plot is very Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Undead and it is hilarious at times. Bardsley hooked me from the start and kept me on the edge with all the twists this story took. The story overflows with her unique brand of humor that easily kept me engaged throughout the story.
The story opens with Moira and her team exploring an ancient temple in the Sudan desert. Evidence suggests that the temple belonged to an ancient Egyptian vampire cult. She has actually stumbled upon the resting place of a pair of ancient vampire mates. Along comes the crew from Broken Heart. They're looking for Shamhat and Amahte who've been MIA for thousands of years. Their lives get entwined despite the wiping of the memories. Seems like Moira carries a special legacy...one that she never knew about. She also thinks she's crazy and she's got the happy pills to prove it.
Drake is one of the werewolf triplets. He feels that instant attraction as soon as he looks at Moira. She does too...only the crew fix it so she won't remember it. He's okay with that until her life is in danger. Then all bets are off, and you just know he'll end up claiming her. I liked Drake. He was sexy. But then again, I have a thing for werewolves.
The plot took a lot of twists in this one. The search for the missing vampires was quite exciting. Then things got more interesting when the evil vampire - Karn - shows up. He's on a power trip and takes Moira's BFF and Queen Patsy hostage. He's still a douche bag, by the way.
There is loads of humor to be found in this one. The ancient vampires wake up wanting to drive cars and meet the infamous Sam and Dean Winchester. That alone was enough to have me howling with laughter. Then we meet a Xanax popping demon. That had me grinning from ear to ear.
In the end, Moira learns that with love comes sacrifice and not to let fear stand in her way. That's a great lesson from a book that had me laughing the whole way through. The romance was fantastic, and Moira and Drake made the perfect couple. Traipsing their way around the world on exciting adventures. The adventure part made this a thrilling read and it reminded me of some of the earlier books. Then there is the humor. What can I say? Bardsley is in a class of her own in that department. Those of us who get it....we really love it.
I enjoyed every minute of this book. It's getting my highest recommendation. It's got something for everyone, and it is sure to leave you wanting more from this talented author.
When I found the ancient tomb of the two most powerful vampires in history, I knew I was in for a lot of trouble….
But archaeologists like me, Moira Jameson, are ready for trouble. Okay, maybe not human-species-threatening trouble. Or the kind of trouble that arrives in the form of a sexy werewolf named Drake. Yeah. Werewolf. And I thought ancient curses and walking corpses were a joke. Um…not so much.
’Cause a walking corpse named Karn wants to reveal vampires, and all of parakind, to the humans. And everyone else thinks that’s a bad idea. Then a pyramid mysteriously appears in Broken Heart, Oklahoma, and I’m appointed to get inside, survive booby traps, and awaken two very old, very hungry vampires. Luckily, Drake has my back (and my front). Unfortunately, archaeology sometimes reveals some very nasty surprises. And I'll have to decide between saving myself…or saving the world.
