Once Again a Bride is a really exciting regency romance filled with intrigue and suspense. The characters were interesting. Lady Charlotte called to me from the start. Here was a woman despaired of ever having love. And Alec never wanted to find love at all. Yet, they found love together while following a trail of twists and turns, murder and mayhem.
For the past year, Charlotte has been sinking ever lower into despair. She is trapped in marriage to a cold man concerned only with his own selfish obsession. After her husband is murdered Charlotte is left alone and destitute. Then she meets her late husband’s nephew and the man who will become her savior.
Alec was not aware that his eccentric uncle, Henry, had married. None of his family knew. The pretty, young widow was not what Alec had expected. Then an attempted robbery and the ensuing investigation reveal that Henry's death was no random murder Alec offers his protection to Charlotte and takes her into his home. But when she is named as the # 1 suspect in the murder even Alec begins to wonder if he was wrong to trust her so easily.
I enjoyed this story. Even the secondary characters were interesting, especially the precocious Lizzie and her maniacal cat. There is a lot of suspense that will keep the readers guessing as to the killer’s identity. A big surprise will be revealed concerning the murder and I never even saw it coming. Then there is the romantic ending as the hero finally let go of his fear of love to grasp his chance at happiness. I would have liked a better resolution concerning the murderer, though.
This is a not to miss and highly recommended historical regency romance that follows a dark trail of murder and suspense. If you like a bit of thrill with your romance then you'll definitely want to try this one.
