Midnight's Surrender

Dark Warriors 8.5 / Holiday Novella

Dale is a warrior with a dark past. Unlike most of the Warrior's in this series, he hasn't always fought on the side for good. For a time, he let himself fall in with evil and that was how we first met him. He did redeem himself but now he feels unworthy because of his past deeds. He has been following the call of an unknown magic for a while now. The trail ends on the tiny Isle of Coll, where Dale realizes that he has been following the pure goodness of mie magic. It is a powerful Druid magic that has pulled him here. Dale is surprised that something pure and good would call out to him. He has to find out why.

The magic belongs to Rennie, a young Druid who doesn't realize how powerful she is. Her gift is such that it has kept her distanced from others until Dale comes into her life. He rescues her after arriving to find her lying outside injured in a snowstorm. They are drawn to each other right away and bond while the storm rages around them. They are very honest with each other and that was one thing I liked about this story. Then Harriet, an evil Drough threatens Rennie. It seems that she holds something that the Drough wants and will do anything to possess. Dale and Rennie search her land trying to figure out what Harriet is after before it is too late.

I loved Dale and Rennie together. I liked how they helped each other in this story. How they were ready to fight to save each other. Dale was willing to sacrifice himself for Rennie. And I loved the way she saved him. I mean really saved him. Not giving anything away here. But I have read every book in this series, been there from the start. And though it has been mentioned, this was the first time any of this stuff happened. So if the series is really ending.... then Donna Grant ended it on one happy note.

This was another great read from Donna Grant. Entertaining until the end. Though shortness is the necessity of a novella.... this one packed a big punch. Midnight's Surrender is a very satisfying read and another wonderful addition to the series. I enjoyed it so much.
