Once again, Donna Grant has given the readers a great story. Midnight's Promise is the book # 8 in Grant's spectacular Dark Warrior's series. Just Wow! I've followed and enjoyed this series since the very beginning. I've enjoyed each book, always eagerly looking forward to each new one. Grant did an outstanding job on this book, and with her brilliant writing she gives Malcolm his redemption in just the right way. It was a story to be remembered. Strewn with emotional drama and riveting suspense. I was swept up in the story, enthralled until the last page, and I enjoyed every minute spent reading this book. For this reader, Midnight's Promise is a stunning tale about the healing power of love.
Grant did a freaking amazing job on the character development in this one. Malcolm is the most volatile and unpredictable Warrior. Grant delves deep and shows every facet of his emotions. All the anger, grief, remorse and despair. He is bitter and fighting his guilt that has isolated him. He is riding the edge, contemplating drastic actions, and has almost lost his humanity. The intensity of his self-loathing, because he was the one who killed Duncan. Those emotions bled all over this story. Until Malcolm rescues Evangeline, and is hopelessly drawn to the young Druid. In the beginning, he coldly calculated killing her. Then things changed and I was fascinated as his icy facade began to melt and his emotions emerged.
Evangeline is a Druid with secrets. She is the guardian of some powerful magic. An evil arch villain wants her in his power and he finds the means to get what he wants. The stakes are high, as these two lovers find themselves important pawns in a master villain's game. Will Evangeline give up anything to save her brother? Can Malcolm accept absolution and grasp the happiness that is within his reach? Is it too late to stop Death?
A lot of things happened in this book. Grant held her cards close, and kept me guessing with plot twists that seemed unending. The Dragon Kings played a big part in the drama, taking a thrilling stand in the war. I loved how they had Malcolm and Evangeline's back in this one. The situation got intense at times and a happy ending seemed in doubt. Then Grant came through with a throw down that was no less than spectacular and a special treat at the end.
It's been a great ride for this series. I have enjoyed each exciting and passionate book. Still, as one door closes.... another one opens. Evil is still around, trouble abounds, and big things seem to be on the horizon for the Dark Kings and their allies, the Dark Warriors. I am sure that we will be seeing a lot of familiar faces in future books.
I enjoyed every minute of this book, and recommend it to everyone. Not a PN reader? You're still bound to enjoy this one and the message it delivers.
"Love heals .... Love conquers evil."
For centuries, Malcolm has struggled against the forces of darkness--and bears the scars to prove it. Hardened by a lifetime of fighting, he is more warrior than man, incapable of feeling love or compassion. But one stormy night, he pulls a beautiful woman from a car wreck--and experiences a rush of fiery emotion that could melt even the hardest of hearts.
Since childhood, Evangeline Walker has felt the magic growing inside her. Descended from Druids, she is the perfect vessel for ancient magic--and evil. Evie knows she should trust no one, not even Malcolm, whose strong touch and tender kiss she craves. But after she makes a devil's bargain to save her half-brother, this fearsome warrior may be the only man who can protect her--with his heart, his body, and his soul...
