This novel featured a complex and intriguing plot, with characters that were easy to like. McKenna did an excellent job with her world building and the characterization. The plot was fast paced and easily flowed, with a continuity that made it a snap for this newcomer to catch up with an already ongoing series.
As I've said, I am new to this series. As such, the psychic element was a little over my head. It was the vibrant characters, the meat of any good story that grabbed on and wouldn't let go. Miles and Lara were interesting and pulled me right into their story. Darn it! I'm a sucker for those damaged heroes, and Miles was one of the best. One of the good guys.... but he was feeling some resentment at first. Maybe came outta the starting gate sounding a little cold. But his obsession with Lara turned him into one heck of an alpha male. Dominant and sexy. Possessive and protective. No hesitation to put it all on the line for his woman. You know.... the kind of man that all women dream about. His thrilling rescue of his woman.... totally swoon worthy material.
So moving on to Lara. I loved that girl. She made a great heroine, the kind I like to meet in my book fantasies. Strong and resilient, with a whole lot of attitude. Considering the ordeal that the author put her through, she had to a super girl to survive all that and come out the other side still giving attitude. Yep, definitely my kind of heroine.
Discerning readers need to be aware.... this is an erotic romance. Oh yeah, that's right, it's the good stuff. LOL! The love scenes were sexy and explicit, but with a connection that went deeper than the usual smut. Psychically enhanced sex.... sizzling chemistry.... their intimate relationship was hot. Not just about the sex, though the evocative premise of the plot could have easily made it seem that way. I felt that the author did a great job in giving Miles and Lara that real connection.
The suspense was riveting, with an egomaniac arch villain pulling strings everywhere. The plot took a few twists and turns here and there. Kept me on the edge, anticipating what would happen next. I found the book to be a page turner that I couldn't put down.
Overall, it was a great read, with everything it takes to keep this reader entertained. I totally recommend Fatal Strike to romantic suspense readers. For fans of the series, it's a must read.
