Eternal Demon

Mark of the Vampire

Eternal Demon is book # 5 in the outstanding Mark of the Vampire series. The story opens with the increasingly frantic Erion searching desperately for his son, who was taken by the evil vampire Cruen. Fate deals him a winning hand when he learns that Cruen is about to take a bride. Not knowing that his nemesis has made a deal with the devil, Erion ambushes the bridal cavalcade and kidnaps Cruens bride from hell. Erions brilliant plan was to exchange Hellen, the bride, for his son. It was a damn good plan....until big daddy showed up and things went straight to hell.

Erion is a mutore- half vampire and half whatever, the whatever part being revealed in this story. Being raised by a madman really screwed Erion up. The guy was consumed by guilt about everything. In his mind he was at fault for every single bad thing that happened. He should have somehow known that he had a son. He should have prevented the boy from being taken by his demented adoptive father. He was messed up. Hell, he even felt guilty for turning his back on the mad vampire that raised him. Then he felt shame at the lust he couldn't hide every time he looked at Hellen. He was still going to sacrifice her to get his son back....until he discovered that she wasn't giving herself to his enemy of her own free will.

I loved Hellen and how she kicked ass. She was loyal to her sisters, but too innocent to be making deals with the devil and expecting him to stick to their deal. She guzzled the elixir that turned her into an ice queen....but the why of that wasn't adequately explained. My curiousity ran wild as I tried to figure out all the things that made Hellen tick. I adored her because she'd take anybody on...and usually come out the winner. The girl even went a couple rounds with the big guy himself. Yet, when it came down to it...she did the right thing.

Wright gave us a nice setup for her next book with an interesting subplot that included the sinfully sexy Synjon Wise and the woman who promises to be his savior. She grabbed my interest and now I'm counting the days on that one. All I can say is Wow and it's going to be awesome!

Erion and Hellen were made for each other. Both insecure and wanting to be loved....yet they kept that need well hidden. Fiercely loyal....and willing to sacrifice all. They were both hiding a part of themselves....the one thing that would save them. I enjoyed watching them as they fell fast and hard. Those sensual love scenes had me feeling twitchy as hell....but I couldn't put the book down even if my panties were on fire.

As much as I enjoyed this book (I enjoyed the heck out of it) ....I cannot wait for the next one.

Eternal Demon gets my highest recommendation, and I strongly suggest that everyone try this series. You can't go wrong with the talented Laura Wright.
