Kerrelyn Sparks took this series out with a resounding roar. Yes, I am sad to see it end, but the author ended things on a brilliant note. She gave the readers an amazing adventure, a passionate romance and a happy ending for all of our favorite characters.
What a great story this turned out to be. A Tiger Princess and a pissed off vampire. Russell's mission of vengeance got sidetracked by Jia who was hell bent on avenging her family. They resolve to help each other and beat the odds to get the job done. Along the way they fall in love, but the journey to a happy ever after was a bumpy ride straight through the gates of hell...
I liked a lot of things about this book, with the most important being the main characters and the loyalty that they shared. They stuck up for each other, and it was good that Russell finally found someone and that he realized that he hadn't lost all of his family. He'd simply found a new one. I also liked the special twist and how the mysterious villain's identity was revealed. No, I would never have guessed at it either. Then another special touch was how instrumental everyone ended up being in the book. It gave me a chance to say goodbye to some of my favorite characters.
It is because of Ms. Sparks amazing talent that I have loved every book in this series. They have been perfectly written and totally unique both in the plot, characters, and ever present humor. That is so rare in a long running series. It's been a good run and I hate to see it end. But with that being said, and as hard as it is to say goodbye, I am still excited to see what's next...
New York Times bestselling author Kerrelyn Sparks delivers the exciting conclusion in the Love at Stake series, where a Marine-turned-vampire finds love with the shifter princess forbidden to him . . .
Russell wakes from a coma to find he's become a vampire. Now he has a thirst for revenge. Determined to hunt down the master vampire who turned him, he's used to working alone . . . until he meets Jia. She is after the same vampire for murdering her parents and insists she can help Russell on this mission. Reluctantly, he agrees, and sets up some ground rules:
Rule #1: Their partnership is strictly business. If he holds her a little too close . . . if she looks at him with those exotic eyes . . . well, that has to stop.
Rule #2: He's in charge. Jia isn't used to taking orders and questions every move he makes. So he stops her the only way he knows how.
Rule #3: Don't fall in love. But the kiss that was supposed to quiet her awakens something else in him . . . something forbidden. Because Jia is engaged. To someone else.
