I loved it! Laura Wright's cowboys are every bit as sexy as her vampires!
"Branded" kicks off a new series from this talented author. It is an epic tale of love and redemption. It deals with some dark issues, and was a bit hard to read at times. Life hasn't always been good to the Cavanaugh brothers. I won't go into the details, but this series centers around a horrific murder and the damage that was done to the brothers. They each search for peace from their psychological scars in their own way. Deacon, the hero in this book, needs to get revenge against his father by destroying everything the man built. Standing in his way is Mackenzie Byrd, the ranch foreman and an old family friend. Deacon and Mac go head to head in a fight for what they each think is the right thing to do, even after they get involved in a romantic relationship. Surprisingly, these two stubborn lovers refuse to compromise even after Mac learns the true scope of what happened at the Triple C and the reasons behind Deacon's anger.
I am giving this book five stars because of the incredible writing. Wright pulled me into the story, showed me what made the characters tick, helped me to really see them. She gave me a riveting plot and some steamy love scenes to enjoy. The story flowed just right and was easy to read. I didn't want to put it down. As the series centers around all four brothers, Wright was also exploring intricate subplots that made me wonder what demons lay beneath the surface for them.
What's not to love? "Branded" was a captivating read. It kept me hooked until the end. I can't wait for the next book, "Broken", which will feature the middle brother, James.
In the small town of River Black, Texas, sits the Triple C?a working cattle ranch that sustains the town. But it also holds painful memories and shocking secrets for the Cavanaugh brothers....

He never expected the ranch’s forewoman, Mackenzie Byrd, to get in his way.
Mac knows Deacon means to destroy the ranch and therefore destroy her livelihood. But as the two battle for control, their attraction builds. Now Deacon is faced with the choice of a lifetime: Take down the Triple C to feed his need for revenge, or embrace the love of the one person who has broken down every barrier to his heart.
