This is the first book in the most promising new series to catch my attention in quite a while. This book was absolutely divine.
Lorraine Heath pulled me into this book from the first page. I loved the slow building story that had me anxiously worrying if Aslyn could ever forgive Mick for his scheming. I loved this hero but he was totally ruthless until almost the end. I couldn't exactly blame him though. Now, the Duke and the Duchess, were pretty cold regardless of the big twist in this story. The only person who was completely innocent and good was Aslyn. Oh and all of the other characters need books like yesterday because I cannot wait to read them all.
This was a lovely start to the new series. The mystery of the characters, the rich backstory, the slow building but intriguing plot, and the emotional gut wrenching aspect were wonderful. It was all of this combined that made this my perfect book journey.
At birth, Mick Trewlove, the illegitimate son of a duke, was handed over to a commoner. Despite his lowly upbringing, Mick has become a successful businessman, but all his wealth hasn’t satisfied his need for revenge against the man who still won’t acknowledge him. What else can Mick do but destroy the duke’s legitimate son—and woo the heir’s betrothed into his own unloving arms . . .
Orphaned and sheltered, Lady Aslyn Hastings longs for a bit of adventure. With her intended often preoccupied, Aslyn finds herself drawn to a darkly handsome entrepreneur who seems to understand her so well. Surely a lady of her station should avoid Mick Trewlove. If only he weren’t so irresistible . . .
As secrets are about to be exposed, Mick must decide if his plan for vengeance is worth risking what his heart truly desires.
