Another fantastic entry in the stellar Kowalski family series. I loved this book! I love all of Shannon’s books, but I had a feeling that Josh's book was going to be special. I've been waiting for this one ever since he and his snarly attitude made the scene during Mitch's story. Let me just say, Shannon outdid herself on this one.
Josh Kowolski felt trapped in a life that he never chose. All he ever wanted was the freedom to make his own choices. Instead, he was the one who got stuck managing the family lodge, while his siblings moved on with their lives and careers. He wants out and his family promise to give him a chance to fly.
Katie has loved Josh forever. She wishes he would notice her as a woman and not just one of the guys. With a little bit of help from a matchmaking mama, Katie finally gets her wish. Josh has a typical male reaction when he finally realizes that his BFF is a looker. The poor guy doesn't know what to do. Things go from awkward to funny, as he tried to scrub those naughty thoughts from his mind.
But even after he hooks up with Katie, Josh still wants his get out of jail free card. When a couple of things happen that could make his dream come true, Josh has some tough decisions to make. Now, he has a choice, spread his wings and loose Katie or stay and grow bitterer as time passes.
I enjoyed this book tremendously. It certainly lived up to my expectations. Josh and Katie were every bit as exciting together as I had anticipated. As always, Shannon’s characters have a depth that makes them endearing and believable. Josh and Katie drew me into the story and had me hoping each of their dreams come true. And in that moment when Katie gave Josh what she knew he needed, my heart was breaking right along with hers. She knew her best friend better than anybody, and was strong enough to set him free, even as it broke her heart. Shannon Stacey knows how to create awesome characters that pull at your heartstrings.
This was a wonderful story. If you're a big fan of friends to lover’s stories, then you won't want to miss this one. Although part of an awesome series, it works great as a standalone book. I'd recommend this book to all contemporary readers.
Josh Kowalski is tired of holding down the fort—better known as the Northern Star Lodge—while his siblings are off living their dreams. Now that his oldest brother has returned to Whitford, Maine for good, Josh is free to chase some dreams of his own.
As the daughter of the lodge's longtime housekeeper, Katie Davis grew up alongside the Kowalski kids. Though she's always been "one of the guys", her feelings for Josh are anything but sisterly. And after a hot late-night encounter in the kitchen, it's clear Josh finally sees her as the woman she is.
Katie's been waiting years for Josh to notice her, but now that he has, she's afraid it's too late. Giving her heart to a man who can't wait to leave town is one sure way to have it broken. But Josh keeps coming up with excuses not to leave—could it be that everything he's ever wanted is closer than he could have imagined?
