The Viking's Curse

Woodland Creek

This is my first book by Xandra James. "The Viking Curse" has a well written story-line with a great plot. The characters are very definitely unique and it's their uniqueness that gives the story flavor.

However, I must say that by the second chapter I was completely pulled into the story and by that time I was also pulled into TJ and Kol's world and loving it.

I was fascinated with the double identity that Xandra had given Kol and the way it consumed me. I loved it. It's unlike any shifter type I've seen thus far.

It really was enjoyable to read. I love it when an Author can give you a great sense of humor intertwined with a depth of life and death matters.

Kol and his family had been placed under a Gypsy curse for several generations back. They were cursed with the protection of the dead because Kol's great-great-grandfather had taken a body from its grave. Every night Kol became the "Draugar," the dead Viking detective. Kol was quite the thing for a snarky dead man. He was also fully alive during the day.

TJ Knight worked for Battle Security. She had been sent to Woodland Creek to find out why bodies were disappearing from the graves. TJ had a terrific sense of smell and she could also smell magical essence. But the essence faded quickly. What TJ did find was exactly the same small rune inside each empty casket.

---A Tid Bit---

While TJ was in the cemetery she felt a presence. It wasn't something she could clearly see at first. What she saw was huge, on two legs, with a face gnarled with wrinkles and its eyes were like red lasers. TJ didn't recognize it in the slightest. While she had seen a few demons, this was not one of them.

The demon was trying to do a physic sweep of TJ so she pulled on her physic strength and shot a steel rod into the demon's brain. TJ just managed to piss off the demon, and immediately she asked, "What are you?" "I am the messenger of death," said the demon. You are now marked for death. TJ snarked since when, since right now he said as he grabbed her wrist. She felt a claw pierce her shin and a small intricate rune appeared.

There was now a bounty on TJ's head and collectable by any and every demon around.

This is really a fantastic book.

Book Blurb for The Viking's Curse

30 Authors. 30 Shifter Stories.

I'm cursed. There's no cure for what ails me. I'm part man, part draugar; a Viking warrior shifter who protects the dead. I'm a selfish bastard, numb to the world around me, surviving only to avenge my wife and mother's murder. One emotion —anger—keeps me alive. At least, it did until I met TJ Knight and my icy heart began to beat once more.

I was all wrong for her yet I craved her in ways I never imagined. So making a deal with her to save that cute ass from a death mark probably wasn't the smartest thing I'd ever done. If I could manage to keep my hands off her, I might just stay in one piece.

The other thing? It turns out we have a mutual enemy. If we can work together, we might be able to find and destroy him. Trouble is, now it seems I have to kill TJ to give her a chance at living. Killing was my favourite thing but bringing her back to life? Now that might prove a problem...
