Want to settle a bet on who the first female soccer superstar was? Or how about who has won the most NFL MVP awards? Ever wanted to know who has the longest winning streak in tennis history? Bet ya can’t guess who has thrown the most career no-hitters in baseball. Well, now you can get all that info, and tons more, about 101 of the most famous and successful athletes in all of sports history with the new book, Sports Illustrated for Kids Big Book of Who: All-Stars.
I love this series by Sports Illustrated for Kids – even though it is for kids. But what fun and excitement it is to read all about all-stars in various sports, as well as little-known facts about some of today’s most popular athletes. Read about who Tiger Woods idolized as a child learning how to play golf, what it was that pushed Jesse Owens to give his all during the Olympics and the real name of basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. There’s also a funny story shared about Boston Celtics player Larry Bird, how San Francisco 49ers’ wide receiver Jerry Rice reacted after his record for most receiving yards in one season was broken, and the nickname the father of Olympic swimmer Missy Franklin has for her feet. (A nickname she was given by her fans? Missy the Missile.) There was so much I learned about these athletes that I hadn’t known before and so many stories that were funny and inspiring. I really loved this book and could hardly put it down.
The Sports Illustrated for Kids Big Book of Who: All-Stars is a one-of-kind compendium of sports trivia, stats and stories kids would enjoy reading about and sharing with their friends. It’s definitely a good book for any kid aspiring to be an athlete, and a good source of information for fans of any sport.
