As an Archie fan for many years, I was intrigued to hear that they were introducing an openly gay character to Riverdale High. But Kevin Keller has been well-done from day one, being a gay role model without being preachy or stereotypical. So I wanted to read his coming of age story when it came out. While I was disappointed at first to discover it was an actual book and not a comic, it was well-written and entertaining from page one.
Kevin Keller is introduced as a middle school student, who must face not only the challenges of a new school, a bully, and finding a prom date, but also strange feelings for a friend who sometimes pretends Kevin doesn’t even exist. This book is a must have for school and public libraries, as a resource for kids (and their parents) who are trying to come to terms with their sexuality.
Kevin Keller is the first openly gay character in the history of Archie Comics and currently stars in his own best-selling series of comic books. In this special paper-over-board novel, we focus on Kevin’s early, awkward years and the struggles and joys of his inspirational road to self-discovery. This sweet and funny coming-of-age story features a strong anti-bullying message and is a perfect gift for Archie fans, parents, and anyone who has?or is?struggling to find their place.
