A Groom of One's Own

Miss Sophie has dreaded weddings ever since being stood up at her wedding when just halfway down the aisle. Which makes her new career as a "Writing Girl" for the London Weekly writing about High Society weddings even more painful and ironic. She has given up on love and happily ever after until she meets Mr. Brandon who she belives might be the one for her. But then she discovers that he is actually the "double" Duke of Hamilton and Brandon who is the feature of her newest article featuring his "wedding of the year" to Lady Clarissa. Brandon has always prided himself on his sense of honor and responsibility. In fact, he even made a list of qualities that the perfect wife requires and Lady Clarissa meets them all, and love is not one of the requirements. Will Brandon throw all of that away because of this intense attraction to Sophie or will he let honor keep him from true love? Throw in meddling mothers, a handsome foreign prince and fainting sisters to complicate the "wedding of the year." Will Brandon and Sophie find a way to be together or will they let past fears keep them apart?

Maya Rodale's newest book "A Groom of One's Own" is a fun and fast read with entertaining characters, an intriguing storyline, and witty dialogue. At times the secondary characters hijack the story for their own, with the "Writing Girls" and Brandon's sister Charlotte demanding their own stories told. While Sophie at times come across as weak, waiting for things to happen instead of grabbing her own happiness, at the end she manages to redeem herself. This is a good read for anyone looking for a romantic and entertaining historical romance.
